(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) On December 19, 2015, just before noon, a Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a KIA Forte traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on Highway 401. A Chatham-Kent OPP officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop westbound near Charing Cross Road.
While the officer was speaking with the male driver it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension.
During subsequent OPP traffic investigation, it was discovered that the driver of the vehicle provided the officer with a false name and date of birth. The driver’s licence was suspended and he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
As a result, the driver, 33 year-old Steve POLYNICE, from Laval, Quebec, has been charged with the following:
Obstruct Peace Officer, under the Criminal Code of Canada
Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Driving While Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
The driver is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on January 26, 2016, to answer to the charges.
