Statement on Loss of North Huron’s First Reeve Doug Layton

Statement on Loss of North Huron’s First Reeve Doug Layton

On behalf of the Township of North Huron Council and Staff as well as the community as a whole, I wish to convey our deepest sympathy to Marilyn Layton, their daughter Jennifer, son Jeff and families on the passing of their Husband, Father and Grandfather.

Doug was first elected to Wingham Town Council in 1994 after having completed the position as Chairman over an extremely successful Wingham Homecoming that summer. During his six years as a Wingham Councillor Doug was involved in various important projects in the Municipality and served on various Boards and Committees.

In 2001 Doug was elected as the first Reeve for the newly amalgamated Township of North Huron and was subsequently re-elected in 2004.

In 2005 Doug was elected as Warden of Huron County Council.

During Doug’s terms as North Huron’s Reeve he also served as a member of the Wingham Police Services Board as well as led the Municipality in many other initiatives.

After his time on Municipal Council, Doug served on the North Huron Police Services Board as a Provincial appointee assisting with general management and oversight of the Wingham Police Service.

Doug’s commitment to Wingham and subsequently to the Township of North Huron was unwavering. He was dedicated to assisting in any way that he could toward the improvement of the community in which he lived and raised his family.

Our thoughts are with Doug’s family during this difficult time.
