Spilled Coffee – Follow Too Closely Charge

(ST.MARYS, ON) On Thursday January 12, 2012 around 6:30 a.m. Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a two vehicle collision on Station St. east of King St. North in St.Marys.

Investigation revealed that both vehicles were east bound on Station St., when the driver of the first vehicle spilled coffee and braked suddenly. The driver of the second vehicle was unable to slow down in time and rear ended the first vehicle. The 34 year old male driver from St.Marys who was operating the first vehicle, a Nissan pickup truck, did not sustain injuries. The 24 year old female driver from St.Marys who was operating the second vehicle, a Pontiac GGT was also uninjured. Both vehicles sustained minor damage. The female driver has been charged with “follow too closely”.

Police are reminding motorists to ensure enough distance is maintained between your vehicle and the one you are following. You must be able to react in time to avoid a collision, bring your vehicle to a safe stop and keep control of your vehicle at all times. In inclement weather such as is expected this weekend, motorists are urged to “slow down and leave more space between you and the other driver”.
