(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) –Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has recently acquired a new tool to assist officers with ensuring the safety of motorists on Wellington County roads. “Speed Spy” is a passive, low profile application capable of collecting data that will assist in monitoring traffic flow.
The roadways chosen to utilize the “Speed Spy” are selected from public traffic complaints and identified trends such as collisions, speeding and aggressive driving in certain areas. With this analytical data, Police will be able to address public concerns, validate the issues in a timely manner and isolate the best time of day for deployment of resources.
Wellington County OPP Staff Sergeant Vickie Dawson says “Speed Spy” has given our Detachment the ability to effectively maximize and deploy front line resources while ensuring we address the public concerns regarding their safe passage on the roadways in our County. This new piece of technology is not meant to replace the existing traffic management equipment we utilize, but rather supplement our ability to allocate our resources based on the data collected and develop speed and collision reduction strategies.
