In a separate incident later on that same afternoon, an OPP officer had occasion to observe a motor vehicle allegedly travelling at a speed of at least 50 km/h in excess of the posted 80 km/h zone on Hwy 144 near Gogama.
The driver, a 22 yr old male, has been charged and served with a Summons requiring him to attend Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
Additionally, the vehicle has been impounded for 7 days and his driver’s licence has been suspended for 7 days.
The South Porcupine OPP reminds motorists that the obligations to be safe and responsible while behind the wheel rests squarely on the shoulders of the individual driver.
Those motorists who insist on driving at high rates of speed can rightfully expect a prompt and strict response from OPP officers who diligently patrol area roadways.
