(PEMBROKE, ON) – On January 16, 2016, investigators with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Upper Ottawa Valley detachment received information that an 18 year-old Pembroke male had indicated through social media, that he intended to harm himself or others and that he was driving a pick-up truck, stolen from the Pembroke area, heading towards Ottawa.
OPP officers notified the Ottawa Police Service to assist in locating the suspect. The stolen vehicle was located abandoned on Highway 417 near Panmure and March Road, in the City of Ottawa.
Upon a search for the suspect, he was located at a store in the area of Pinecrest Road and Highway 417.
Ottawa Police Service contained the suspect who was subsequently apprehended then transported to hospital with serious, life threatening injuries.
The Ottawa Police Service has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
Anyone with information about this incident or who may have picked up a male pedestrian and transported them within the area of Panmure Road, Lincoln Heights or Pinecrest Road, is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
