(DRUMMOND NORTH ELMSLEY TOWNSHIP, ON) – Thanks to the actions of members of the community, officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an impaired driver who fled on foot from a collision on Carroll Road in Drummond North Elmsley Township.
OPP were called to the scene of a two motor vehicle collision at 8:39pm on Friday 6th January 2017. A car had rear ended another vehicle and then entered the ditch. The driver was unable to get the car out of the ditch and fled on foot on a nearby skidoo trail.
During the course of the initial response officers were approached by two snowmobilers who escorted the officers in a search of the trail, for approximately 2 kilometers, where the driver was located and arrested.
Matthew CORRIGAN (33 years) of Drummond North Elmsley Township, is charged:
One (1) Count. Drive Motor Vehicle while Impaired.
One (1) Count. Driving over 80mgs of Alcohol per 100millilires of Blood.
One (1) Count. Fail to Stop at Scene of an Accident.
All three offences are contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
CORRIGAN is also charged with:
One (1) Count. Operate Motor Vehicle without Insurance, contrary to the Compulsory
Automobile Insurance Act.
He was released on a Promise to appear at the Provincial Court in Perth.
While the officers were searching the trail, a third member of the community stopped to help another officer who was dealing with a passenger in the car.
