8:51 AM EST Thursday 08 December 2016

Snow squall watch in effect for:

Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County

Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County

Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

The first major lake effect snow event of the season will develop later today and continue into Friday night.

Snow squalls are expected to begin this afternoon or this evening as a cold front moves through and brisk northwest winds develop over Lake Huron. The snow squalls will intensify and become more isolated tonight as the colder air arrives.

Latest indications suggest there is potential for a strong snowsquall bands with significant accumulation from Lake Huron into Huron, Middlesex, and Lambton counties.

Travel is expected to be hazardous.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Road closures are possible. If you must travel, keep others informed of your schedule and destination and carry an emergency kit and mobile phone. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
