Snow Squall Warning For Wingham And Blyth – Whiteout Conditions, 15cm Snow, 75km Winds

6:17 PM EST Wednesday 14 December 2016

Snow squall warning in effect for:

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

Snow squalls are expected. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Multiple snow squalls from Lake Huron are affecting areas east of the lake. Wind gusts to 75 km/h, heavy snowfall and brief near whiteout conditions will make travel hazardous at times. Local snow fall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are possible by Thursday morning.

OPP have closed highway 21 between Owen Sound and Goderich.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

Snow squall warnings are issued when bands of snow form that produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
