Just after 6:00 am on the 18th of June 2015 a three year old child walked out of a residence undetected by the occupants. The child had been staying the night with her father at a friend’s place located on the east side of the city when in the early morning the young child found her way out of the residence.
It is not exactly clear how the child got out of the residence but fortunately two Grey County Paramedics observed the child, barefoot and in the company of the friend’s family dog wandering about outside of the residence. They came to the child’s aid and when they were not able to locate parents or any adult in care of the child, they alert police.
Due to quick response the paramedics the child had not had the opportunity to stray very far from the residence. The child’s father was located by police. The Bruce Grey Child and Family Services were contact who continued with the investigation, ensuring the safety and protection of the child.
Police wish to remind parents with young children to ensure that proper attention and care is given to identify such hazards as a child’s ability to leave a residence on their own, undetected. This includes when staying at a location away from the child’s normal abode. It can bring incredible fear to a parent when unable to locate their child; hopefully this fear can be circumvented with some due care.
