Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for:

Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

Updated or ended by 7:04 p.m. EDT.

At 5:58 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, dime to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

A line of thunderstorms out over Lake Huron is tracking southeast and may cross Goderich near 6.00 PM and then reach the Grand Bend area between 7.00 PM and 7.30 PM. Wind gusts to 100 km/h, torrential downpours and intense lightning are quite possible from these thunderstorms. Large hail is also possible.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any storm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Avoid driving through water on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.
