Slow Driving and Open Alcohol

At 3:15am on the 28th of December 2014, police observed a black Hyundai driving unnecessarily slowly on Highway 8 eastbound. The officer followed the car to a coffee shop in the area and observed the driver and two passengers enter the restaurant. The officer noticed an open liquor container in the driver door as well as unsealed liquor throughout the cabin of the car. A small amount of marihuana was also located in the car and a 19 year old male passenger from Cambridge was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. The driver received a three day license suspension and was charged with unnecessary slow driving under the Highway Traffic Act and driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor under the Liquor licence act. The other male passenger was also charged with having an open container of liquor in other than licenced premises, residence or private place under the Liquor Licence Act. Waterloo Regional Police and the community can work together to identify impaired drivers and remove them from our roadways. Anyone seeing a suspected impaired driver is asked to contact Police by calling 911 immediately. Drive safe, drive sober.
