SIU Clears Officers of Wrongdoing, Trent Pringle Faces Charges

(Otonabee South-Monaghan Township, ON) – Late afternoon Thursday, December 11th, Peterborough County OPP arrested Trent Pringle (age 45). Mr. Pringle faces multiple Criminal Code charges for alleged offences that occurred on May 10, 2014. Charges for the accused include: Impaired Driving, Driving with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) in excess of 80mg, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Escape While Being Perused by a Police Officer.

Mr. Pringle was driving eastbound on Hwy 7 and failed to stop for police. Mr. Pringle then crossed the centre lane in his Ford F150, and collided head-on with a westbound minivan. Mr. Pringle was transported to a Toronto area hospital where he spent several months recovering from his injuries that were a direct result of the crash. The driver and passenger of the minivan were treated for minor injuries at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

Hwy 7 was closed while Central Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigators and Re-constructionists investigated the crash. Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was called and invoked their mandate, running a parallel investigation into the collision. SIU closed their investigation in November 2014, clearing all Peterborough County OPP officers involved in the incident, of any wrongdoing in relation to this occurrence.

Mr. Pringle is scheduled to appear in Peterborough Provincial Court on January 15, 2015.
