(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON.) The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was involved with 63 occurrences over the long weekend, but did not have any significant problems.
Of those occurrences, 22 charges were laid under the Liquor License Act against offenders.
The most notable occurrence of the weekend involved a motor vehicle collision. On Sunday August 4th, at 4:20pm, The Sioux Lookout OPP responded to a report of a vehicle driving dangerously on Highway 72, heading south of Sioux Lookout. The vehicle was observed by several other motorists to be crossing lanes, entering the ditches, and then driving back onto the highway. The vehicle was located by the Sioux Lookout OPP near Moosehorn Road shortly after receiving the calls for service. Once located, officers signalled the vehicle to stop, but it continued southbound on Highway 72 where it crossed the lane into the east shoulder near Boat Launch Road. Officers used this opportunity to safely pin the vehicle on the shoulder of the road, preventing it from entering traffic any further. No one was injured as a result of the driver’s actions, but a police cruiser was damaged during the pinning of the vehicle. The subsequent investigation revealed the driver was in medical distress related to a diabetic condition. The driver was subsequently taken to the hospital and treated for their condition. The name of the driver is not being released.
The Sioux Lookout OPP want to thank all the citizens that called in about the vehicle, and remind all motorists that it is acceptable to call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.
