SIOUX LOOKOUT OPP WEEKEND REPORT

(SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON.) The Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was involved with 65 occurrences over the weekend.

Of those occurrences, 8 charges were laid under the Liquor License Act against offenders for public intoxication. The Sioux Lookout OPP also had some notable criminal charges over the weekend.

On Friday August 16, 2013 the Sioux Lookout OPP arrested an intoxicated male outside an apartment building on Third Avenue. The male was found to be in possession morphine and marihuana with an estimated street value of $630. The accused, 31 year old Justin BLAND from Winnipeg Manitoba was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. BLAND was held for a bail hearing in Sioux Lookout Court.

On Saturday August 17th, while on patrol, members of the Sioux Lookout OPP observed a male on Seventh Avenue that was known to police to be on a court ordered release from previous charges. One of the conditions of the release was not to attend in Sioux Lookout. Subsequently, police arrested and charged 33 year old Frank CARPENTER of Slate Falls, Ontario, with one count of failing to comply with his undertaking. CARPENTER remains in custody for a bail hearing in Sioux Lookout Court.

On Sunday August 18th, the Sioux Lookout OPP responded to a complaint of an impaired driver on Highway 642, east of Sioux Lookout. A pedestrian had come upon a vehicle swerving all over the road. Concerned this vehicle was going to cause a collision and hurt someone, the pedestrian used their own vehicle and pulled over the suspect vehicle. The pedestrian proceeded to speak to the driver and confirmed the driver was indeed intoxicated. The pedestrian then removed the keys from the driver, and contacted the police. While the pedestrian was doing this, the driver then ran into the bush. The OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called in to locate the accused, who was eventually found by the Canine Unit. Charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, and driving while under suspension is 33 year old Crystaleen TURTLE of Pikangikum, Ontario. The accused remains in custody and will appear in Sioux Lookout bail court, Monday August 19, 2013.
