Single Vehicle Rollover – 9 Sent To Hospital – Witnesses Sought

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Saturday June 29, 2013, around 3:20 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision on Perth Road 131 near Line 59 south of Milverton.

Upon arrival at the scene officers determined that a single motor vehicle had been travelling north bound on Perth Road 131. Approximately 150 meters north of Line 59 the driver lost control and the vehicle spun into the West ditch, where it rolled and landed upright, narrowly missing a tree. 9 occupants were found to have been travelling in the Chevrolet Cavalier at the time of the crash.

Seven of the vehicle occupants were situated in the vehicles passenger compartment while two were located in the trunk. The two 15 year old males in the truck had to be extricated by the Perth County Fire Department (Milverton Station). The 18 year old male driver, a Stratford resident as well as the 8 passengers ranging in ages from 15 to 18 years were all transported to local hospitals. Two were transported to Listowel Memorial Hospital while seven were transported to Stratford General Hospital. Four of the teens have subsequently been transported to London Health Sciences Centre. All injured persons sustained non- life threatening injuries.

Perth Road 131 near the crash scene remained closed to traffic from the time of the collision until approximately 9:30 a.m. This allowed for the proper removal of the vehicle and vehicle debris, as well as the safe investigation by the OPP West Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigators.

The Perth County OPP is continuing their investigation into this collision. Road conditions were bare and dry at the time of the crash.
