Police received a call from Georgian Mall Security with regards to a couple that had been arrested for shoplifting. The pair attended one of the stores and stole approximately $200 worth of merchandise. Security witnessed the theft and attempted to arrest the pair as they left the store and triggered the alarm. The female was held by security but the male grabbed the bag of stolen goods and attempted escape which then assisted the female to pull away from the security officer. The pair were eventually caught and held for police.
The 24 year old male from Kitchener was charged with theft under $5000 and escape lawful custody. As he is already before the court for similar offences in the Kitchener area, he was held for bail. A 22 year old female from Kitchener was charged with theft under $5000 and released with a future court date.
