(North Kawartha Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called after witnesses observed a person breaking into a residence on Peterborough County Road 504 yesterday shortly after 9:00am.
Witnesses blocked the driveway to prevent the man from leaving in his stolen pickup. The suspect continued to try and escape but the truck was stuck in the snow. Officers broke out the window of the stolen vehicle in order to take the male into custody.
Shawn Edward CROMWELL (age 31) of Peterborough, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Break, enter and theft under $5000
Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 (stolen pickup)
Fail to comply with probation order (2 counts)
Obstruct police
The accused was held in custody pending a show cause hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario later today.
