(PERTH COUNTY, ON) -Heavy fog, rain and flooding conditions across the county have caused numerous road closures. Members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding drivers to exercise caution while travelling.
Turn on headlights during any inclement weather, regardless of time of day. Tail lights do not automatically engage when headlights are not used.
Reduce speeds on wet road ways; stopping distance increases on wet or icy roads and extra space must be provided between vehicles.
If you begin to hydroplane, look and steer in the direction you wish to go, take your foot off of the accelerator. Do NOT panic. Remain calm.
Plan ahead-check with local media and municipality websites for road closures.
Call police if you encounter an unsafe road condition.
Take the extra time required to arrive safely at your destination. In an emergency, pull over and dial 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, contact police at 1-888-310-1122.
