Several More Impaired Drivers Busted Over The Weekend

(BRIGHTON, ON) – On September 25, 2015 at 11:22pm a Lincoln Towncar was stopped at a RIDE program on County Road 64. The driver, who had been drinking, was arrested and taken to the Brighton detachment for further tests.

As a result of these tests, Dennis ATHA age 80 of Brighton, Ontario is charged with Having Care and Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 14, 2015.

(HAMILTON TWP, ON) – On September 26, 2015 at 3:59am police responded to a collision on County Road 45 near Harwood Road involving a Pontiac Sunfire which had struck three unoccupied parked vehicles at the side of the road. Officers spoke to the driver of the Sunfire who sustained minor injuries and determined that she had been drinking. She was arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests.

As a result of these tests, Aleysha GIROUX age 25 of Grafton, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care and Control of a motor vehicle and Having Care and Control of a motor vehicle while her blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 28, 2015.

(BRIGHTON, ON) – On September 26, 2015 at 4:33am police observed a ‘Smart Car’ that had been reportedly driving erratically in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401. The car was measured to be traveling 155 km/h near the Brighton exit and was stopped. The driver was found to have been drinking and open liquor was observed inside the car. The driver was arrested and taken to the Brighton detachment for further tests.

As a result of these tests, Jonathan HIGGINS age 25 of Dundas, Ontario is charged with Impaired Care and Control of a motor vehicle, Having Care and Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood, Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed and a liquor offence. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 14, 2015.

(CAMPBELLFORD, ON) – On September 27, 2015 at 5:09pm an officer stopped a Chrysler Acclaim for an equipment offence on Trent Drive. The officer determined that the driver had been drinking and a quantity of marihuana was located in the car subsequent to his arrest. He was taken to the Campbellford detachment for further tests.

As a result of these tests, Elijah CROTHERS age 22 of Campbellford is charged with Having Care and Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg in 100ml of blood and Possession of a Schedule II substance – Cannabis Marihuana under 30g. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on November 3, 2015.

In all of the above cases, the vehicles were towed from the scene and the drivers received an automatic 90 day licence suspension. The OPP is reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive and potentially lead to loss of life or serious injury.
