(LEEDS, ON.) – Officers of the Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County are urging drivers to clear snow and ice off of their vehicles before leaving your driveway.
Over the past week officers in Leeds have responded to several complaints from drivers who have been the recipient of pieces of airborne slabs of ice crashing onto their vehicles. Fortunately in these cases there were no injuries, but there was property damage, and the potential for worse. Flying ice has the potential to cause secondary collisions as some drivers may not be able to drive due to a shattered windshield.
Leeds Detachment Commander, Inspector Jeff Smith says, “Owning a vehicle comes with responsibility, leaving ice on your vehicle because it takes too long or inconveniences you may result in a fine, or worse, someone’s life”.
The OPP would also like to caution that some drivers may be temporarily blinded by snow coming off of your vehicle if it is not properly cleared off. Along with cleaning cars, motorists should walk around the vehicle to ensure everything is in perfect running order.
