Serious Injuries In Tractor Trailer Vs E-Bike Collision

(THUNDER BAY, ON) On Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at approximately 1:21 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thunder Bay Police Service, Thunder Bay Fire Department, Superior North EMS and OPP Forensic Identification Unit responded to a motor vehicle and pedestrian collision.

The driver of an electric bike was north bound on Highway 61 in the far right lane, when the driver moved over to the inside lane causing a tractor trailer driver behind him to brake very quickly.

The tractor trailer struck the rear of the electric bike causing the driver of the electric bike to lose control. The driver was ejected from the electric bike landing in the south bound lane and was struck by a south bound Dodge truck.

The 72 year old male driver of the electric bike was transported to hospital with serious injuries. There were no other injuries reported.

The investigation is continuing.
