Serious Injuries Can Result From Bikes and Boards

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – The Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received several calls about young people engaging in risky behaviour as they skateboard and cycle down the George Street hill in Wiarton.

The OPP would like to remind skateboarders and cyclists that they must obey the rules of the road. The law requires that all cyclists under 18 must wear a bike helmet. Studies have shown that wearing an approved helmet while cycling greatly reduces the risk of injury should a mishap occur. It is also strongly recommended that all skateboarders wear approved protective equipment to ensure their safety.

The OPP also encourage parents to discuss road and equipment safety with their children in an effort to prevent serious injury, or even death, throughout the school year and summer season.
