(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Haldimand County detachment is investigating a senior fraud at an Oak St., Hagersville, Haldimand County, ON address.
On Wednesday July 22nd, 2015 at approximately 10:00 am Police were contacted after a 74 year old Haldimand County, ON man had been defrauded of over $900.00 dollars and was about to lose more money when he went to his bank.
Investigation reveals that the senior received a telephone call at 5:30 am today and was advised that it was his banks Fraud Squad and that his account and credit cards had been compromised.
As a security measure he needed to sign onto his computer immediately and was directed to a website called TEAMVIEWER. When he did this he was then requested to enter his bank account number and PIN number. This then gave the caller remote access to his bank account. The senior was then advised he needed to clean his account out of any money so that the bank could take the necessary steps to secure his accounts. He was then directed to a money transfer centre where he sent over $900 dollars to caller.
He was then directed to his bank to withdraw over $1000 dollars and when he did this the bank teller became suspicious of the request and Police were contacted.
