Search For Missing Boaters

(DESERONTO, ON)- This morning at 8:43 a.m. Tyendinaga Police Service received a report of two missing men from the Tyendinaga First Nation. The men, 21 and 26 years of age, had launched a 14ft aluminum red and silver fishing boat with a small motor from the Bayshore Road area at 2 a.m. this morning.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) was contacted immediately and a Griffin helicopter from Trenton, a Coast Guard Cutter from Kingston and a Coast Guard Auxiliary boat from Quinte Search and Rescue were dispatched to the area.

Also assisting are three OPP Marine Units and a Mohawk Fire Department marine unit. OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and members of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Fire Department are also conducting a ground search.

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact the Tyendinaga Police Service or the Napanee OPP.
