(ESSEX, ON) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) members from Essex, the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC), the Essex County OPP Marine Unit, the Canadian and United States Coast Guard, Kingsville Fire Department, Essex Fire and Rescue Services, Windsor Essex Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and local volunteers are at the scene of an overdue swimmer on Lake Erie off the shore near the Colchester Harbour, Essex.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. a group of boaters on a twenty three foot Boston Whaler were on the water approximately one kilometer off the shore and to the east of the Colchester Harbour.
Two persons on board reportedly were swimming near the boat when one of them struggled and went under water.
Aiding in the search are helicopters from the OPP and the Canadian and United States Coast Guard.
The OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit (USRU) will be attending to assist as the search continues.
