(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is suspending the search for a missing canoeist on Pigeon Lake.
On April 3, 2016 three individuals set out on Pigeon Lake to retrieve a pedal boat that had drifted from shore. The canoe they were in capsized and only one person was successful in reaching shore. None of the occupants were wearing lifejackets at the time.
Since April 3 OPP resources have been searching Pigeon Lake – one victim has been recovered. The ground search conducted by the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the water search conducted by the Underwater Search and Recover Unit (USRU) was suspended yesterday, April 11, 2016. Over the past 8 days the OPP has thoroughly searched the area utilizing Aviation Services, ERT, USRU and local detachment members. Still missing is 28 year old Angel VILLENEUVE-STEADMAN of Halton Hills.
