(SOUTHERN GEORGIAN BAY, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been enforcing area roads with a cruiser equipped with cameras and a computer to scan licence plates to detect driving violations. This cruiser is referred to as an Automatic Licence Plate Recognition Vehicle (ALPR) vehicle.
On July 24, 2015 at 9:10 a.m. on Balm Beach Road in Midland, ON an officer stopped a vehicle when alerted that the registered owner is a suspended driver. Further investigation found that the driver was the registered owner. The 2001 Dodge truck was towed and the driver Scott TAYLOR (age 41) of Brampton ON was charged with:
· Drive while suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
· Drive Motor Vehicle with no currently validated plate contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
· Use plate not authorized for vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic act
· Fail to surrender insurance card contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The accused will appear in Provincial court in Penetanguishene on September 3, 2015
