(CALEDON, ON) – On Monday, May 30, 2016 officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended for a call for service at a local high school in the Town of Caledon.
On this day, 2 students at the school had entered a stairwell and released a noxious substance which resulted in damage to school property, an evacuation of the school, and assistance from Caledon Fire Services.
Both young persons involved in the incident have been charged with Mischief Under $5,000.
Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) protects the privacy of young persons who are accused or found guilty of a crime by keeping their identity and other personal information confidential. The protection of privacy is achieved by prohibiting the publication of information that would identify a young person’s involvement in the criminal justice system and by restricting access to their youth records.
Members from the Caledon Detachment of the OPP would like to remind all students that as the end of the school year approaches upon us rapidly, please behave responsibly. Schools are not only a place for learning and development but also an environment where all individuals should feel safe from harm and danger.
Thus, finish the school year off on a high note, and not with a visit from a police officer and criminal charges.
