(THUNDER BAY, ON) – On Monday, May 2, 2016 at approximately 8:13 am, Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Gillies, Nolalu and Neebing Volunteer Fire Departments as well as Superior North Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 595 in Gillies Township.
A school bus driver was west bound on Highway 595 when the bus left the roadway and struck a hydro pole in the east bound ditch. Hydro One was contacted and attended the scene to secure the hydro pole and two hydro wires that were affected by the collision.
There were 17 students and the bus driver on board the bus. One student was transported to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
The 56 year old female bus driver was charged with Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
