On 10 May 2017 Saugeen Shores Police reported the investigation of multiple complaints of fraud, theft of mail and possession of property obtained by crime. A 30 year old Saugeen Shores male has been arrested and is in custody while police continue to investigate. This is a complex investigation involving thousands of dollars.
Police arrested 30 year old Josh DEVRIES of Saugeen Shores who was held for a bail hearing. Police continue to investigate this matter and continue to uncover more fraudulent activity. Further charges are pending against Devries.
4:38 pm police received complaint of a stolen bicycle that was left unlocked at SDSS.

8:41 am two bicycles were stolen from a residence on Waterloo St over the past few days. The bicycles were unlocked.
17 May 2017,
8:47 am police attended to a rural residence to a report of someone being pepper sprayed with bear spray. Ambulance attended to assist the victim. The victim declined to provide details as to who sprayed him with the bear spray.
10:43 am, police responded to a report of a fraud. A Saugeen Shores resident was contacted by phone by a male person reporting to be from her bank. The person indicated they were doing an audit and her account appeared to be out some money and they suspected an employee. The victim was asked to attend her bank and withdraw $4,200. She had then been instructed to go to Waterloo and Elgin St where a bank security official would take her money and put it back into her account. This money was not put in her account. The male was described as 40 to 50 years old, 5’ 11” skinny, wearing round reading glasses and a ball cap.

8:13 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton, no violations.

9:07 pm police observed a van on fire in the Canadian Tire parking lot. The owner had returned to his vehicle to find smoke inside and upon opening the door flames broke out. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical.

7:38 pm police arrested a 25 year old Saugeen Shores woman on a warrant after her surety was revoked. She was held for a bail hearing.

2:53 pm,
Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on High St near Grosvenor St. A driver was backing from a parking spot on High St and backed into another vehicle. Minor damage, no injuries.
1:48 am police attended a downtown Port Elgin bar to a report of someone using an altered identification. The male was warned.
All of our liquor establishments are very well trained and generally catch those trying to use fake identification or trying to order alcohol underage.
2:12 am police observed two males downtown Port Elgin carrying some advertising signs. One of the males also had two open bottles of alcohol and was charged accordingly.
21 May 2017,
1:21 am police observed three males walking along Green St with open beer. The males were warned and the beer was dumped out.
2:53 am police responded to the Quality Inn in Southampton to a report of unruly people. A male and female entered the Inn wanting a room for $100. When they were told that there were no rooms available they got upset. When they left the female threw the complimentary coffee on the lobby carpet. Police were unable to locate the two.
8:04 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision at North Rankin and Turner St. A vehicle drove across the roadway from a stop sign and was struck by a vehicle south on North Rankin St. One of the vehicles received major damage, no injuries. The driver of the offending vehicle was charged with Failing to Yield.
9:53 am police responded to Macs Milk in Southampton to a gas drive off. The responsible driver was located and returned to pay the $47.37.
10:14 am police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Albert and Palmerston Streets in Southampton. A vehicle was stopped on Albert St stopped at a stop sign at Palmerston and was struck by another vehicle from behind. The driver of the vehicle at fault was a suspended driver. He was charged with Careless Driving and Driving While under Suspension. His vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
12:49 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Goderich St. Two vehicles were stopped southbound on Goderich St near Devonshire waiting for a vehicle to turn. The first vehicle was struck from behind and it in turn struck the second vehicle. The responsible driver was charged with Careless Driving.
3:15 pm police conducted RIDE in various locations in Saugeen Shores. This RIDE was done in a Joint Traffic Initiative where Saugeen Shores Police partner with the Grey County OPP, Bruce Peninsula OPP, West Grey Police and Owen Sound Police. Approximately 600 vehicles were checked resulting in three Highway Traffic Act charges, eight Highway Traffic Act warnings and one Roadside breath Test was administered resulting in a pass. This RIDE was done during the time of the May weekend River Run in order to ensure the safety of all participants and those using the roads at its conclusion.
11:23 pm police observed a male walking with open alcohol on Kaake St. The male was warned and he poured out his alcohol.
22 May 2017,
1:00 am police observed a male beside a vehicle in a parking lot along Goderich St. The driver’s door was open, back hatch was open and the vehicle running. The male was then observed in the driver’s seat. The male displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested for Care and Control of a Vehicle while Impaired. At the station he provided breath samples that came back as 150 mgms and 150 mgms. The legal limit is 80 mgms. A 54 Elmvale man was charged with Care and Control.

10:29 am after investigation police arrested a Young Offender for offering to sell MDMA/Ecstasy. No controlled substance was sold but offering to sell can result in a charge of trafficking.
1:25 pm police attended to a two vehicle collision in the parking lot of Giant Tiger. One of the vehicles received major damage, no injuries.
