Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 11April – 17April2016

11 April 2016,

Officers Primeau and Cook are presenting DARE classes at Port Elgin Saugeen Central and St Joseph’s Schools.

12 April 2016,

Sometime overnight three unlocked vehicles were entered on Sumpton and Falconer Streets. The items taken included change, wallet with personal information, sunglasses, usb cable, Garmin GPS and a Horton’s card.

Over the last week we have had several reports of dogs running at large and two separate incidents where a dog has bitten another dog and a person. Please ensure you have control of your dog at all times. We have a by-law requiring dogs be leashed but the injury your dog might inflict on another dog or person may result in you being charged under the Dog Owners Liability Act.

12:39 pm police responded to a taxi not being paid the fare owed. The fare was paid.

2:11 pm police responded to a mischief complaint on Market St. Sometime last week person(s) unknown were drinking in and about the older abandoned van and has set fire to part of it. No suspects.

2:47 pm police responded to the Port Elgin Rexall to a theft complaint. A person had entered the washroom with a camera and took it from the case then left the store with it. A 28 year old Saugeen Shores man was trespassed from the store.

4:42 pm sometime in the past two weeks someone stole two 2-ton hydraulic jacks from outside a home in Port Elgin.

9:17 pm police on patrol observed a male on Market St bleeding profusely from a cut on his face. Investigation revealed an assault had occurred at a house party where some people got out of control. One male broke a beer bottle over another males head then struck out with the broken bottle striking the male in the face. The injured male was taken to hospital by ambulance. A 24 year old Saugeen Shores male is charged with Assault with a Weapon.

13 April 2016,

3:04 am police stopped a vehicle and the driver was wanted on a warrant from South Bruce OPP. Three other occupants of the vehicle were advised they were under arrest after some marihuana was observed. One of the males fled from the scene. The male that fled was later arrested and charged with Escape Lawful Custody and Possession of Methamphetamine. The female driver was turned over to the OPP on their warrant.

1:28 pm police attended to a collision at Waterloo and Catherine St. A vehicle was west on Catherine St, stopped for the stop sign and continued, striking a vehicle that was south on Waterloo St. The driver of the offending vehicle was charged with Fail to Yield.

Over the past week police received several calls in regards to aggressive sales persons. A company called the Ontario Energy Group was going door to door selling air conditioners and furnaces. If you are uncomfortable with a door to door salesperson, just ask them to leave. If they do not tell them you are calling the police and do so.

11:30 pm police on general patrol observed a vehicle in the ditch on Highway 21 south of County Rd 3. The driver was on the phone and had a strong odour of alcohol on her breath. She was arrested for Care and Control while Impaired and taken to the police station for breath tests. She refused to provide samples of her breath at the police station and the 35 year old Owen Sound female was charged with Failing to Provide a breath sample.

The penalty for failing to provide a breath sample is the same as failing a breath test and providing readings over 80 mgms.

11:40 pm police investigated a threatening complaint. A male party threatened death to two female persons. A 23 year old Saugeen Shores male is charged with Uttering death Threats and held for a bail hearing.

14 April 2016,

12:14 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Waterloo and Market St. A vehicle was south on Waterloo St and stopped for the stop sign at Market St then proceeded and was struck by a vehicle east on Market St that did not stop for the stop sign at Waterloo St. The offending driver was charged with failing to stop at the stop sign.

4:06 police were alerted to a potential impaired driver in the Independent parking lot. The vehicle was located and driver was found to have been drinking. The driver registered warn on the roadside test and was issued with a three day drivers licence suspension.

6:36 pm police received a report of a basement window being broken at a Port Elgin home. No suspects.

6:50 pm police investigated an altercation between two parties on the way home from a bar and continued at home. A 28 year old male was charged with mischief.

15 April 2016,

3:08 police responded to an intoxicated male at a downtown Port Elgin bar. The male was located and escorted home.

16 April 2016,

9:22 am police received a report of a gas drive off at the Petro Can in Port Elgin. The driver was located and paid for the gas. The man had no intent to take gas, just forgot to pay.

4:33 pm police responded to a mischief complaint at a Port Elgin apartment. A beer bottle had been smashed and a door had been kicked from its hinges. Investigation revealed it was a friend of the complainant. The complainant did not want charged laid.

6:10 pm police responded to a Port Elgin residence where a 34 year old male was acting very violent and had barricaded himself in his room. Police took control of the male and took him to hospital. His behaviour was attributed to consuming methamphetamine.

10:27 pm police received a report from several people that they observed a male carrying a rifle and pointing it at houses in the Ridge and Provincial St area. Several police attended and located the male who discarded the rifle and pulled what appeared to be a handgun from his waist pocket. The male was arrested at gunpoint. The rifle was a pellet gun and so was the hand gun. During the arrest a knife was removed from his pocket and another knife from his waistband. The 19 year old Saugeen Shores male was charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

11:51 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton, no infractions.

17 April 2016,

2:51 pm police received a report of a bicycle being stolen from beside a house in Southampton.

5:22 pm, police received a report of a gas drive off at the Independent Gas Bar of a value of $38.77.

It is that time of year where some take advantage of those who do not lock their vehicles or lock their bicycles. Please help us help you, Lock it or Lose it.
