Samuel PICHETTE – Over 80

(ESPANOLA, ON) – At 3:41 p.m., on December 18, 2016, members from the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on River road in the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers.

Investigation revealed that the male driver of the vehicle had left the roadway and entered the ditch. It was determined by police that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

Samuel PICHETTE, 24 years of age, from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (Alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

Care or control over 80 milligrams, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

The accused driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven (7) days.

The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on January 23, 2017.

The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
