(TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH/ERAMOSA, ON) – On April 16, 2017 at approximately 3:30 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a green Toyota Solara on Wellington Road 51, north of Guelph. The Toyota licence plate was registered to a different vehicle.
Investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle had a suspended drivers licence, the vehicle had not been through a safety examination and the driver was operating the motor vehicle without insurance.
36-year-old Robert THWAITES of Kitchener has been charged with Driving While Suspended, Operate Unsafe Vehicle, No Validation on Plate, and Use Plates Unauthorized contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He has also been charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 17, 2017 to answer to the charges.
Drivers are reminded that fines for driving while suspended start at $1,000 and fines for operating a vehicle without insurance on a highway start at $5,000.
