(SOUTH HURON, ON) – A Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint set up at the intersection of Crediton Road and Morrison Line caught a 39 year old driver by surprise last Friday night.
Shortly before 8:00 p.m. a GMC Sierra pickup was observed travelling toward the R.I.D.E checkpoint when officers observed the driver make a sudden U-turn and head the other direction. Officers were able to follow after the vehicle and complete a traffic stop on Huron Park Road near London Road.
Upon speaking with the male driver officers observed the driver to be displaying several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation and transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; Both tests were above the legal limit.
As a result, 39 year old Robert EDWARDS from South Huron has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on April 17, 2014. He received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
