(Town of New Tecumseth, ON)- On August 16, 2013, at approximately 11:30 pm, Officers from the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a 911 call regarding a Robbery with a Weapon on Queen Street North in the Town of New Tecumseth.
The incident happened when the 55 year old male victim was entering the rear of his apartment on Queen Street and was approached by a young male with what appeared to be a handgun. A struggle ensued between the suspect and the victim, a small amount of cash was stolen from the victim and the suspect ran off. The victim received minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
Nottawasaga OPP arrived on scene within minutes and contained the scene, deploying a K-9 team, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Tactical Response Unit (TRU). As a result of the Police investigation, the suspect was identified and the TRU team made contact with the suspect and affected an arrest without incident.
Nottawasaga OPP have a 17 year old Town of New Tecumseth male under arrest, he is charged with one count of Robbery with a Weapon under the Criminal Code of Canada. The male is set to attend a bail hearing on August 17, 2013. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) the youth’s identity is protected and as such, no further information will be released other than further charges.
