(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – A driver has lost his licence for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days after he entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program while having too much to drink. On August 15, 2014 Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Thorndale Road and Heritage Drive in the Municipality of Thames Centre. At approximately 8:41 p.m. a vehicle approached the R.I.D.E. check and it was discovered the driver had been drinking. A roadside breath test was administered and the driver registered a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to the OPP detachment for further tests.
As a result of the investigation, the male driver, 32 year old Rim KAO of London, ON has been charged with driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. In addition, the driver was charged under the Liquor Licence Act with having liquor in an open container in other than a licenced premises, residence or private place.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in a London courtroom September 11, 2014 to speak to the charges.
