On the 21st February 2014, officers from the Barrie Traffic Unit and Uniform Patrols conducted a R.I.D.E. Spot-check at several areas within the City of Barrie. Just seconds after setting up at the first location, a driver was arrested and brought to the Police Station where he provided samples of his breath. The individual was subsequently issued a 3 Day Warn Range Suspension. This was a rather disappointing start to the evening.
Over 500 vehicles were stopped over a six hour period resulting in 21 roadside tests being administered, 6- Three Day Warn Range Suspensions, a 12 hr Suspension for consuming under the age of 22 yrs and operating a vehicle. During the R.I.D.E. Spot-check officers observed numerous taxi cabs being utilized, as well as Designated Driver Services by many citizens that had been consuming alcohol. We encourage anyone to plan ahead if you are intending on drinking, and a vehicle is invovled. We thank those who made the right choice not to drive while consuming alcohol or drugs. Impaired Driving is a leading cause of serious injuries and fatal collisions in Canada, and this is a preventable occurrence.
