RIDE Results In Drugs And Weapons Seizure

(Ottawa, ON) – On April 28, 2015, the Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a R.I.D.E. program on the Maitland onramp to highway 417 eastbound. The passenger in a motor vehicle was observed not wearing his seatbelt. Officers subsequently stopped the vehicle. As a result of the investigation, officers located a quantity of drugs and a prohibited weapon.

The male driver, 40 year old Bernard Jason Clark of Ottawa, is charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA); and

Possession of a Schedule II substance (CDSA).

The male passenger, 44 year old Gerald Michael Burns of Ottawa, is charged with:

Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marihuana – under 30 grams (CDSA);

Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Resin – over 1 gram (CDSA); and

Carry Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Code.

Both are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Ottawa on June 3, 2015.

Reminders:

The OPP is reminding drivers that R.I.D.E. stops are carried out throughout the year, throughout the province as part of the OPP’s Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP).

If you plan on drinking, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit.

We rely on the public to report crime and impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently. If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired by alcohol or other drugs and intends on driving, strongly discourage them from driving and call 9-1-1.
