(HALLOWELL, ON) – On August 4th, 2016 at approximately 1:28PM, the Ontario Provincial Police Prince Edward County Detachment (OPP) was called to an unwanted person on Gilead Road in Hallowell Ward. Officers arrived and observed the male driving his motor vehicle, and subsequently initiated a traffic stop. An investigation determined that the driver of the motor vehicle had been consuming alcohol prior to driving. As a result of the investigation, 47 year old Richard CAIRD was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol in 100 Millilitres of Blood. His vehicle has been impounded, and his Driver’s license has been suspended for 90 Days. He has been released on a Promise to Appear.
The Hillier Ward man is due to appear in the Provincial Court of Justice in Picton Ontario on September 7th, 2016.
OPP rely on the public to report crime and impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently. If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired by alcohol or other drugs and intends on driving, strongly discourage them from driving and call 9-1-1 if they insist.
