(WELLINGTON COUNTY, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Street Crime Unit (SCU) with the assistance of uniform officers have charged two Harriston men after a lengthy investigation that involved numerous vehicles being stolen and eventually recovered in the north end of the County.
The investigation spanned over a 45-day period and involved stolen vehicles along with property that was contained in the vehicles being stolen and subsequently being used to commit other criminal offences.
As a result of the criminal investigation, police arrested and charged 23-year-old Kevin HARPER of Harriston with the following Criminal Code offences:
Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Over $5000 X5
Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000 X3
Theft Under $5000 X4
Fail to Comply With Probation Order X2
Attempt Theft Under $5000 X2
He was held for a Bail Hearing to answer to his charges.
Police also arrested and charged 25-year-old Donald HARPER of Harriston with the following Criminal Code offences:
Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Over $5000
Possession of Property Obtained by a Crime Under $5000
Theft Under $5000
Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He will appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 12, 2016 to answer to the charges.
OPP continue to remind residents to lock their vehicles as the majority of these thefts involved unlocked, unattended vehicles with the keys in the ignition and valuables left in plain view.
