(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 20-year-old Huron East man is facing three criminal charges following an incident that took place Tuesday morning in Clinton. At approximately 10:30 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received information from a witness about some occupants of a Ford F-150 possibly consuming alcohol inside the truck.
Just before 11:00 a.m. a Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle as it pulled into a driveway on Queen Street. Before the officer could pull in behind the pickup, the driver quickly reversed out of the driveway. The officer then activated his emergency lights and began to exit his cruiser. At this point the driver of the pickup revved his engine, drove forward and rammed into the cruiser. The pickup then fled at a high rate of speed travelling northbound on Queen Street.
Shortly thereafter, officers were able to locate pickup truck abandoned on North Street North. Police contacted the owner of the pickup truck and were informed the driver did not have permission to be using the vehicle.
Later that evening the driver of the pickup truck turned himself into police. He was arrested and later released from custody.
As a result, 20-year-old Anthony RILEY from Huron East has been charged with the following offences:
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a)
Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon contrary to section 270 (1)(a)
Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent contrary to section 335(1)
He has a court appearance scheduled for February 22, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
