(CALEDON, ON) – On March 17, 2016 a construction company located on Nixon Road in the Village of Bolton contacted police to report that a work vehicle had been broken into overnight. As a result of the offence, the involved vehicle sustained extensive damage, to the interior and exterior, and over $23,000 worth of equipment had been stolen from inside the rear compartment.
Officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with assistance from the OPP’s Forensic Identification Unit and Street Crime Unit were able to solve this investigation effectively by carefully examining the crime scene and gathering evidence that was left behind. Due to DNA, “the carrier of genetic information” and better described as the fundamental, distinctive, and unchangeable characteristics or qualities of a human being, a positive link was made to the accused individual.
Subsequently, on May 5, 2016 Gurpreet Singh LALLY, 34, of Brampton was arrested and charged with the following offences in relation to this investigation: Theft Over $5,000, Mischief Under $ 5,000 and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. Following his arrest, the accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
