(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – On March 12, 2016 at approximately 8:40 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged a male with multiple offences after he had taken a vehicle on a joy-ride in the Township of Southgate.
Earlier in the day, the accused had taken the victim’s 2000 Lincoln Navigator SUV from his residence on Southgate Road 14 without permission. He had driven the vehicle to a beer store and then proceeded to a relative’s home where he had consumed some beer. He then took the vehicle on a joy-ride through a muddy field near the victim’s residence. After colliding with a tree, the vehicle was left abandoned in the field. The vehicle and the field crops had sustained severe damage.
Police located the male at a residence nearby. He was arrested and held for a bail hearing on March 13, 2016. The accused remains in custody pending a video bail scheduled for March 18, 2016.
30-year old Christopher Kenneth PENROSE of the Township of Southgate was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, mischief over $5000 (x2), mischief under $5000, and breach of probation.
