(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have conducted 12 Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs throughout the County since December 1, 2016.
On December 1, 2016 shortly before 3 p.m. at the Township of Perth East a Festive RIDE program resulted in a driver being charged under the Ontario Tobacco Tax Act.
A Festive RIDE program was conducted at the Municipality of North Perth on December 2, 2016 just before 1:00 a.m. A pickup truck entered the program and the driver was recognized by officers. An investigation was conducted and the 43-year-old driver from Municipality of West Perth was arrested for two counts of failing to comply with recognizance and breaching one his probation order under the Criminal Code of Canada. He was arrested and held for a bail hearing.
Perth County OPP will continue to conduct the Festive RIDE program until January 7, 2017. You are encouraged to use one of these options if you plan on drinking or consuming drugs. Plan to not drive, instead arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, stay overnight or take public transit. If you suspect that someone is driving or is about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it.
