Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 193 calls for service during the previous week, including animal complaints, family disputes, fires and assisting people dealing with mental health issues.

Domestic Disputes

Officers attended seven domestic disputes in the previous seven days. One male was charged with three counts of assault, three counts of domestic mischief under $5,000, breaking and entering, unlawfully in a dwelling, and failing to comply with a probation order. A second male was arrested and charged with assault and uttering a threat.

Break and Enter

Provincial Constable Tina Hunt is investigating a break, enter and theft that occurred during the afternoon on Tuesday April 14 on Farewell Street in Renfrew. The victim reported their apartment was vacant for the afternoon. When they returned home they discovered a window lock broken and an Xbox 360 and several games stolen. The investigation is continuing.

Theft

Charges are pending after a male was shoplifting at No Frills in Renfrew. On Sunday April 12 an off duty officer was shopping at No Frills when they observed a male acting suspicious and leave the store with a cart full of merchandise and make no attempt to pay. Staff reviewed store security and after they investigated they reported several items had indeed been stolen. The suspect is known to the officer and an arrest warrant is being sought.

A glider rocking chair was stolen from the front porch of a residence on Lynn Street in Renfrew overnight Monday April 13. The victim has indicated there is a suspect as someone asked about the rocker when they were picking up free items at the roadside. They were told the rocker was not available, but the victim reports it was stolen overnight and a note left behind. The investigation is continuing.

One male was charged with theft after filling his car with gas and refusing to pay. On Wednesday April 15 at 7:10am a vehicle stopped at the No Frills gas bar on O’Brien Road in Renfrew and the male driver pumped fuel into the vehicle. There was no licence plate on the front of the vehicle and the rear plate was covered and obscured. The attendant went outside and attempted to block the vehicle. When it was clear the driver had no intention of going inside to pay the attendant moved and the vehicle sped off. OPP officers patrolled for and located the vehicle near Arnprior. David GODIN 25 of Mansfield Que was released from custody on an appearance notice charged with theft under $5,000. He will appear in court in Renfrew on May 27. Provincial Constables Kyle Mask and Mark Young investigated.

On Wednesday April 15 shortly after 1pm a male stole a laptop computer from Peter’s Computer Solutions on Madawaska Street in Arnprior. Police attended and reviewed security footage and have identified the suspect. Charges are pending. Provincial Constable Mark Young is leading the investigation.

A bike was stolen from a residence on Grigg Avenue in Renfrew overnight April 15. The bike was unlocked, stored beside the garage and is described as a black BMX Solo Premium bike valued at approximately $500.

Fires

Police assisted with traffic control while fire department personnel were fighting two separate fires on Thursday April 16. A shed and grass fire on Thompson Road in Horton Township was quickly extinguished, and a grass fire beside Highway 17 near Scheel Drive in McNab Braeside Township resulted in OPP officers slowing traffic on Highway 17 for the safety of the firefighters.

Impaired Driver

On Saturday April 15 at 10:57pm OPP officers responded to Butler Road in Admaston Bromley Township after receiving a report of a vehicle in the ditch. Provincial Constable Kyle Mask investigated and found the male driver had been drinking. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving. Following breath tests at the detachment Kevin BRISCOE 57 of Renfrew was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on May 27.

Liquor Licence Act

One male was charged after police received a report of a male driving a vehicle that had stopped to purchase gas and had open alcohol in the car. Officers stopped the suspect vehicle on April 17 on White Lake Road and located open alcohol in the vehicle. Donald FOLEY 72 of Clearwater Florida was given a ticket for the offence of having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Provincial Constable Mark Young investigated.
