Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 246 calls for service From June 1-7, 2015.

Impaired Driver

On June 1 at approx. 3:37pm Renfrew OPP officers responded to a single vehicle rollover collision on Highway 41 at Khartum in the Township of Greater Madawaska. They discovered the male driver had been drinking and subsequently failed an alcohol screening test. After conducting breath tests at the hospital Stanley JONES 54 of Horton Township was charged with impaired driving, driving over 80mgs and driving with open alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 8, 2015. Provincial Constable Marc Bennett led the investigation.

Domestic Disputes

Police responded to and investigated 16 domestic disputes during the first week of June. One male was charged with assault and domestic mischief. No other criminal offences occurred.

Dangerous Driving & Stunt Driving Charges

Officers from the Highway Safety Division (HSD) were conducting patrol on Highway 17 near Haley Station on June 6 just before 9pm when a red Mazda RX8 was seen at a high rate of speed. Officers observed the vehicle driving in excess of 190km/hr in a posted 90km/hr zone and driving in a manner that was dangerous to the public. Officers located the vehicle on Gypsy Lane and the driver nearby. Following their investigation the driver, Shawn WASYLIW 23 of Whitewater Region Township was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, obstruct police. He was released on these criminal charges on a Promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 12. Je was also charged for the following Highway Traffic Act offences: stunt driving – speeding by more than 50km/hr above the posted speed limit, and improperly display licence plates. He was released on a summons for the HTA offences to appear in traffic court in Renfrew on August 21. His driver’s licence was suspended for 7 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days. Provincial Constable Jason Smith led the investigation.

Break and Enter

Provincial Constable David Ladd is investigating the theft of tools from a storage container in Arnprior. Sometime overnight on Friday June 5 someone cut the lock off a storage container on the property of Quality Inn and Suites on Madawaska Blvd. once they gained access they stole a table saw, a Makita grinder and a 50 foot extension cord. The investigation is continuing.

A shed on Harrington St. in Arnprior was also broken into between 5-7 June. The thief also cut a padlock to get in, and then stole a Husqvarna chainsaw. Provincial Constable David Ladd is investigating.

Breach of Probation

On June 5 Provincial Constable David Ladd was given information that a male was breaching a condition of his probation order. The officer attended an address in Arnprior and found the suspect breaching the order. Tylor MONTPETIT 25 of Renfrew was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.

On June 7 Sgt Don Francis received information that a male who was wanted by police was in Renfrew. Police did have a warrant for the arrest of the male for breaching a probation order. The 19-year-old male was located and arrested. He cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew.

Theft

An amber caution light was stolen from a truck overnight on June 3 in the area of Argyle Street in Renfrew. The rectangular caution light is approx. 24” by 10” in size. There are no suspects.

A cargo trailer was stolen from a property on River Road in McNab Braeside Township. The trailer is described as a 2004 American Pace trailer with Ontario Licence B2890C on it. It was last seen on June 3 and discovered stolen on June 7. There are no suspects.

Threat

A young person has been charged after police investigated a report of someone receiving threats. Provincial Constable Denys Baranovskiy led the investigation. A 14-year-old male from Arnprior was charged with uttering threats. Under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act he cannot be identified. He will appear in court in Renfrew on August 10.
