Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 205 calls for service during the past week.

Domestic Violence

Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 10 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with 2 counts of breach of a recognizance. No other criminal offences took place.

Break and Enter

Police are investigating a break and enter at a residence in Renfrew on Tuesday March 28. The homeowner was in the home at 11:30 pm on Fourth Street when a ground floor window was broken. There is a suspect and Provincial Constable (PC) Mark O’Dacre is investigating.

Thefts

On Tuesday March 28 at approximately 1:15 pm a male entered Renfrew Buy and Sell on Raglan Street S in Renfrew. The male suspect put an item into his coat pocket and left the store making no attempt to pay. The suspect is known to staff and the theft was captured on store video surveillance. Sgt John Birmingham is leading the investigation. Charges of theft under $5,000 and breach of probation are pending.

On Tuesday March 28 shortly after 2 pm police responded to a theft of money from Wendy’s restaurant in Renfrew. Staff advised a customer grabbed a quantity of cash off the counter and fled on foot. PC Chris Colton is investigating.

A jacket was stolen from a customer at the John Street Pub in Arnprior. The coat was last seen at 11:30 pm Saturday April 1, and was discovered missing at 1:30 am Sunday April 2. The blue bomber style jacket had a cell phone in the pocket. PC Rick Shikatani is investigating.

Mischief

A window was smashed at Robertson’s Furniture on John Street N in Arnprior. The damage was discovered on Tuesday March 28 at 8 am. PC Erin Densmore is investigating.

Fraud

Two attempted frauds were reported to the OPP this past week. One fraudster attempted the Grandparent Scam, where someone pretended to be a lawyer representing a grandchild. They contacted the grandparent for bail money. The caller was aware of this type of fraud and sent no money.

The second attempt saw a person alter a cheque and attempt to cash it on more than one occasion. The TD Bank in Arnprior is assisting with the investigation. Two suspects have been identified. Sgt John Birmingham is investigating.
