Renfrew OPP Weekly News

(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 188 calls for service during the previous week, including family and domestic disputes, collisions and thefts.

Domestic Disputes

Renfrew OPP officers responded to 9 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with two counts of breach of probation, and one male was charged with breach of a recognizance. No other criminal offences occurred. If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse in an intimate relationship please seek help. You can talk to your physician, an abuse issues nurse at your local hospital, or a police officer. You can also call the Bernadette McCann house for Women at 1-800-267-4930. They provide 24hrs telephone support, all calls are confidential, no call display and callers are directly connected to a worker.

Marine Student Position

The Renfrew OPP is once again seeking a marine assistant for the summer. This exciting opportunity is open for students to assist a police officer with marine duties during the summer months. Learn and contribute firsthand, and gain valuable experience in the law enforcement environment. All jobs open January 4 and this position closes February 16. Applications are only accepted online. Robbery

On Sunday January 3 at approximately 1pm a male entered the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on O’Brien Road in Renfrew. He displayed an edged weapon, took cigarettes and left the store. He was followed by staff and police arrested the male in a nearby parking lot. Bradley DAWDY 40 of Greater Madawaska Township was arrested and held for a bail hearing on Monday January 4. He is charged with robbery with a weapon. Provincial Constable Sarah Darraugh led the investigation.

Theft

Two wood processing units were stolen from a business property in White Lake. The equipment was last seen on Monday December 28 and discovered missing on Thursday December 30. Both units were Cord King Wood Processors. Total value of the theft is in excess of $195,000. Provincial Constable Jeff Cassidy is leading the investigation.

An adult tricycle was stolen from a residence on Hall Avenue in Renfrew on Friday January 1 in the evening. The suspect was seen walking away with the tricycle and police followed the tracks in the snow to a residence. The tricycle was in the driveway under a tarp. The male suspect was located and arrested. Lucas GODIN 34 of Renfrew was charged with theft under $5,000; trespassing at night, and breach of probation. He was remanded in custody for a bail hearing on January 2. Provincial Constable Dave Peace investigated.
