(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 182 calls for service during the previous week.
Domestic Disputes
Renfrew OPP officers responded to nine domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with forcible confinement, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and disobeying a court order; one male was charged with criminal harassment; and one male was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. No other criminal offences occurred.
Break and Enter and Thefts in Cobden
Several vehicles and some property was stolen overnight on Monday Feb15 in Cobden. A vehicle stolen from Killaloe was recovered on Astrolab Road. The 2003 grey Subaru was running stuck on a snowbank and had a damaged ignition. Police attended the Home Hardware that was broken into overnight. Unknown persons cut the lock off the gate and gained access to a shed. Several barbeques were stolen from the shed. Next police responded to Cobden Automotive where a 2010 Dodge Caravan blue was reported stolen overnight. The keys had been left inside the vehicle. This van was recovered by Ottawa Police on February 21. Police then received a report of a stolen trailer containing 2 snowmobiles. A 2003 Polaris and a 1979 Ski-doo Citation were on a black homemade trailer with no licence plate. They were stolen from Gibson’s Garage on Main Street in Cobden. All of these thefts occurred between 10pm Monday February 15 and 4:30am Tuesday February 16. Anyone with information is asked to call the Renfrew OPP or Crime Stoppers.
Mischief
Someone spray painted graffiti on the sound barrier wall behind No Frills on Monday February 15. It is believed the damage was done between 8 – 10 am using blue spray paint. There are no suspects.
Someone also spray painted graffiti on a porch on Gould Street in Cobden. This damage happened over the weekend on February 14-15.
Someone slashed three tires on a vehicle in Renfrew on Jennet Street. Police responded on Friday February 19 at 12:05 am. The complainant reported seeing someone running away and get into a black vehicle. The investigation is continuing.
Impaired Driver
One male is facing charges after a two vehicle collision in Renfrew on Wednesday February 17. Police responded to the collision on Tasse Avenue at 4:45pm. The officer was advised a black truck had rear ended a black van. The male driver of the black truck had been drinking. The male refused to provide a suitable sample of his breath for the roadside alcohol screening device. He was arrested and charged for the offence, and for breaching a recognizance. Allan Windle 67 of Renfrew was released on an appearance notice for court in Renfrew on March 16. Provincial Constable Sarah Darraugh investigated.
Bail Violation
On Thursday February 18 at 12:40 am Provincial Constable Jason Golds stopped a vehicle in Arnprior for a traffic offence. The driver was found to be contravening conditions of his bail release, and to be in possession of drugs. Jeffrey PARSONS 22 of Lanark Highlands Township was arrested and held for a bail hearing. He was charged with 3 counts of failing to comply with a recognizance, possession of a schedule 1 drug, possession of a schedule 2 drug, and possession of a schedule 3 drug.
Liquor Licence Act Charges
While conducting RIDE spot checks in Renfrew Sgt John Birmingham seized open alcohol from a vehicle. On Wednesday February 17 at 9:07pm the officer was conducting RIDE spot checks on Barnet Blvd when he stopped a vehicle. Two open cans of beer were seized. Kirk PLUMMER 26 of Pembroke was issued a provincial offence notice for drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor. Jacy-Lyn DOUCETTE 22 of Petawawa was issued a provincial offence notice for having liquor in open container in other than licenced premise, residence or private place.
